THE RARE VENUES WEDDING NOTEBOOK

Choosing a month for a wedding in France

Compare local climate, national tourism patterns and the spaces you will use.

Start with the day you want

An outdoor ceremony, a long dinner and a weekend by the pool each put different demands on the season. Pick two possible months before asking for dates. That gives you a useful comparison without assuming that the warmest month will be the most comfortable.

Read the weather figures correctly

Our venue charts use NASA POWER area averages for 2001–2020. A monthly temperature is a mean across day and night, not an afternoon high. Monthly rain describes a total, not the number of rainy days. Two months with similar totals can still feel very different during a particular weekend.

Compare the setting as well as the month

Ask where guests can find shade, where dinner moves if it rains and how the evening space is heated or cooled. A sheltered courtyard and an exposed terrace need different plans. In mountain areas, the coarse climate grid cannot describe every elevation or access route.

Use tourism data as background

The national chart below shows when nights were spent in French tourist accommodation. It helps put the season in context. It cannot tell you whether rooms near a particular venue will be available, what they will cost or how many weddings take place that month.

Check the whole guest journey

Before settling on a date, compare flight or train options, accommodation and the final transfer. Ask guests with school, work or access constraints what they need. Keep a written indoor plan for the full guest list, whatever the climate averages suggest.

France’s accommodation season in 2025

July and August account for 36.0% of the year’s recorded nights in this series. That is a national tourism pattern, not a local room-availability forecast or a measure of wedding demand.
